The rich history of the hall of justice

The Hall of Justice was built in 1920 adjacent to the Old Sheriff's House and Jail. It was the site of the Lake County Criminal Courts building through the early 1970s until the Lake County Government Center at 2293 N. Main St., was built.

Once considered for individual listing in the National Register of Historic Places, this building was inevitably turned down in 1997 and was scheduled to be demolished and turned into a parking lot. Captivated by the beauty of the old Courts Building, my husband and I purchased and renovated the building, saving it from its fate.

Today, this unique building features a spacious marble dance floor, 20-foot-tall ceilings with original skylights, a gorgeous 7-foot crystal chandelier, 10-foot gold frame mirrors, and brass candelabras throughout the room.
